Upcoming conferences and Workshops from the Indiana DOE science page
Third
Annual Darwin Day Conference - In a climate where science education and
public education in general are under assault, Center for Inquiry stands strong
in support of both. One of the major goals of CFI is to promote and defend
science and reason by providing educational programs for the community.
It is in this spirit that Center for Inquiry Indiana is offering its Third Annual
Darwin Day Conference on Saturday, March 8, 2008 at the new IUPUI Campus Center,
420 University Blvd, Indianapolis, IN. It is a full day conference open
to students, teachers, and the general public.
One graduate credit hour will be available from IUPUI’s School of Education
($269.05) in-state tuition) and a certificate of documentation will be provided
at the end of the day for teachers who wish to use the conference as part of
their Indiana Professional Growth Plan.
High school, junior high, and middle school students who are mature enough to
appreciate and listen attentively to our speakers are welcome to attend.
For example, high school advanced biology students attended the 2006 conference.
We would welcome your encouraging teachers and students to attend our conference.
Exploring Light Energy Interactions with Earth Features is a NASA sponsored web site that is part of the Digital Earth Watch (DEW) project. In this workshop, you will learn how to use an interactive web site designed to teach students how to use remotely sensed data to assess and monitor Earth’s environments. This web site includes interactive activities, self-paced lessons, and a teacher data base where all student results and responses are recorded. It also includes all teacher materials. Students will learn to understand relationships between the electromagnetic spectrum and features on Earth. They will discover the usefulness of remote sensing in their everyday lives, and how remote sensing can help to solve local, state, and national environmental problems. The workshop is most applicable to teachers teaching, Earth Science, Environmental Science, Geography, Geology, and some aspects of Life Science. Additional materials developed by other “Digital Earth Watch” partners will be discussed. Click here for a brochure with a link to an application.
