Saturday, May 4, 1968 - Exploratory
Meeting at Kokomo with Hank Bindel, NSTA Assistant Executive secretary
for Field Services, present.
Saturday, May 10, 1969 - ISSA meeting
at Perry Central Middle School followed by an afternoon meeting of
interested persons in which a constitution and by-laws for the Hoosier
Association of Science Teachers (HAST) were adopted. Instructions were
given to Colglazier, Prettyman, Gommel and other Central Indiana Board
members to incorporate the new organization as a not-for-profit
corportation under Indiana law over the summer and designate the Senior
State Science Consultant as the Resident Agent of the future
corporation. Motts was elected president, Gil Turpin elected V.P., John
Bonar elected Secretary.
Saturday, October 25, 1969 - Meeting at
Madison, following an IAS annual meeting at Hanover College, during
which the the May constitution and by-laws, revised to reflect the
corporation status, were approved. HASTI was adopted as the official
acronym of the organization and the incorporators' suggested seal for
the corporation was accepted. Since Turpin had started doctoral studies
and felt he did not have the time to devote to the V.P. office of a new
organization, Madison H. S. Science Department Head, Virgil Imel, who
had also attended the organizational meetings, was named to replace him
as V.P.
Saturday, April 18,1970 - A Statewide
meeting was held at Indiana Central College (now The University of
Indianapolis) to allow publishers of the science texts that might be
offered for state adoption that fall to expose their textbooks to as
wide an audience as possible. (HASTI's first year emphasis had been on
getting as many Indiana Science Teachers as possible to attend National
NSTA Convention held in April 1970 in Cincinnati.)
Friday and Saturday, February 5 & 6, 1971
- First HASTI Convention was held at the recently remodeled Atkinson
Hotel (formerly the Severin Hotel, now the Omni Severin Hotel) in
Downtown Indianapolis.
Friday and Saturday, February 4 & 5, 1972
through Thursday, Friday & Saturday, February 12, 13 & 14, 1981
- The Annual HASTI Convention was held at the Stouffer's Inn on N.
Meridian St. in Indianapolis. It became a three day Convention in 1975.
Thursday, Friday and Saturday, February 4, 5
& 6, 1982 - The HASTI Convention was moved to the
Indianapolis Sheraton West Hotel on the Airport Expressway. In 1982 or
1983, the hotel was refranchised as the Indianapolis Adams Mark Hotel.
The annual HASTI Convention continued to be held at the Adams Mark
through Th-S, February 10 - 12, 1994.
Thursday-Saturday, February 9 -11, 1995
- The HASTI Convention was moved to the Indianapolis Convention Center.
